Fat Loss

Diet &
drug assisted

What we eat and drink impacts our health and fitness.  There is a lot of confusing and contradictory information in the public domain about diet.  As a Personal Trainer I can legally call myself a Nutritional Therapist and help my clients cut through the "noise" that surrounds nutrition. The loudest 'sound' at the moment, particularly following approval by the NHS, is the use of fat loss drugs (GLPs). I discuss this separately below.

Once we are clear what your fitness goals are it is likely that adjustments to what you eat and drink will play an important part in helping you deliver on those goals.  My approach to nutrition is very simple,  no matter what your goal might be.

As with physical training, for you to  stick to a balanced effective diet it needs to be sensible and include food you like and work around your busy lifestyle and access to food.   To do this it is likely I will first ask you to keep a food and drink diary (I have an app that makes this easy to do!). I then ensure that any plan I prepare is balanced, enjoyable and flexible. This may simply be me providing you with a calorie target and it's then up to you to decide what foods and quantities you consume to keep below your target or if it works better for you a more prescriptive set of planned meals can be provided.

The good news is that with me no foods are completely off the menu, it's very much about finding a balance that helps you deliver on your goals.

Fat Loss drugs - GLP-1

In 2024, the NHS approved the use of GLP-1 (Glucagon-like peptide - 1) drugs for fat loss.

What does this mean?

Well firstly the NHS is satisfied that they work!  At a stroke this legitimises the drugs both via the NHS and the private sector.

For those who are very overweigh, have a medical need and have struggled with their weight there is now hope.  Caution is needed however!

The NHS has limited their use to a very small proportion of those who need them.  As with any drug there are side effects and those thinking of  using the drug need to obtain qualified medical approval before they use.  Also and pretty crucially the drugs do not address the underlying reasons for the obesity and once patients come off the drugs, unless they have addressed and changed their lifestyle factors like diet and exercise, the weight will go back on.

One negative consequence of the NHS approval and the limits applied is that the private market demand has further exploded.  There will be unscrupulous operators in the market.  Those contemplating usage would be wise to do their research and ensure they use a reputable provider who carries out thorough medical checks and assists with lifestyle change.

Responsible provider of Fat Loss drugs - GLP-1

In almost all circumstances 'natural' weight loss, through diet and exercise must be the preferred approach.  However for some,  GLP-1 drugs offer credible hope.  They are here to stay and are now  widely available. If clients are determined to use them, then the only safe approach is  to source them, not from some anonymous company on the internet who will post them to you no questions asked, but to source them from a responsible provider.

Concerned to ensure the safest and most effective use I have  undertaken some research into this growing market myself,  to find a trusted provider.  My conclusions for those determined to resort to these drugs is to use a company called:

MedicSpot

MedicSpot, a CQC registered and trusted healthcare provider  have unmatched expertise with an experienced medical team. Crucially before dispensing any drugs one of their G.Ps will review your NHS Summary Care Records to ensure your suitability and then patients will benefit from regular check-ins. Patients are also offered dietician advice and entrance to a behaviour change course.

What I'm particularly impressed with, and why I’ve partnered with them is that they are serious about supporting lifestyle change particularly encouraging fitness and being more active.  These are not just hollow words though, if you contact them via the link below and are prescribed one of  the manyGLP-1 drugs available, not only will  MedicSpot reduce the cost of your first treatment by £50 but I can provide you with a FREE face-to-face PT session (if you are local to GU47) or one month of free online training delivered via my App.
